Notes for John GETCHALL Sr.
On 22 Jun 1720, John was granted land a scarboro, Cumberland, ME. He Served as Corpate in Capt. John Grey’s Company and as a Capt. in 1748 (French Indian Wars).

In 1736 he moved to New Meadows, ME, a part of New Brunswick, where he was selected one of the selectman. He was made Capt. of the Militia Co. of Brunswick, Maine.

In 1748 he led a company of men on a scouting expedition up the Kennebec River, Going as far North as the Belegrade Lakes and Snow Pond. In 1751 he was a Capt. in which his son, John, was Sergeant. That company performed guard and scout duty. John Sr. was a noted Indian Fighter and a man of Great influence in the region.

John is described as being a large, portly man, very venerably looking, especially on Sunday with his wig and triangular hat.

John Sr. was the Kings surveyor and made surveys in all of the adjoining towns
