Notes for Knudt Johnson BAEVRE
Knudt Johnson Bævre, born in 1818, was the first child in the first marriage. It was common that the farm was handed down to the first child - in this case Austigard. But John had married a new wife and she arranged that the oldest son in the second marriage, her son Ingebrigt, be the new owner of Austigard. At this time it was very short of work so a farm was very important for getting bread to the family - many times it could be the only way to survive. Knudt Johnson Bævre was entitled to inherit the farm - but lost his right. What Knudt got was a smaller farm Leet just nearby Austigard where he had grown up. To make it a little bit better he got a small sum of money. Knudt settled at Leet for a short time - then he left for Hyldbakken in Stangvik. It is not hard to understand that Knudt had very bad feelings when he had to leave Austigard. In his mind it was the place where he was born and where he thought he should live his life and see the children grow up. This may also be the reason why all his children left for other places where they could get enough income to support a family. Old Stangvik the rural district (where the farm Hyldbakk was located) is nowadays a part of Surnadal rural district in Møre och Romsdal fylke.
When Knudts wife, Lisbet, died he moved back to Surnadal and lived his last years Utigard. Knudt Jonson Bævre died Utigard (Sogges) the 27th of October 1894. Utigard (Sogges) was the farm where Lesbet Olsdatter was born and raised. This farm had been in Lesbets family since the middle of 1700. The farm is still in the family. This summer my husband and I were visiting the family. The head of the family Kjell Sogge, is related to you and my husband - in what way you can see at the paper “Relationship from John Ingebrigtsen Røv”
