Anthony, came to Falmouth, now Portland, Me. with his brother Thomas prior to 1662. We first meet with his name here in 1662, as a witness to the delivery of the Bramhall farm to Hope Allen, June 3 of that year. He was twice married. His first wife was Annie MITTON, daughter of Michael MITTON, and they lived on the hundred acres of land at Back Cove, granted her by her grandfather, Geroge Cleves. He subsequently enlarged his farm to four hundred acres. His second wife was Susanna DRAKE. From Drake's Indian Wars, we learn the following facts: Capt. Anthony Brackett was an early settler on Casco Bay, where his posterity yet remain. The family were large land holders in Falmouth between the years 1680 and 1690, under a title of government signed by President Danforth. When Casco, now Portland, was destroyed by the Indians in 1676, Capt. Brackett and his wife and one child were taken by the Indains and landed by them on the north side of the bay. This was on the 11th of August 1676, and the Nov. following they made their escape. They found an old canoe in which they escaped to the other side of the bay, where they got on board a vessel and arrived safe in Pisquatagua, now Portsmouth. Capt. Brackett returned to Falmouth, Maine in 1679. He became a selectman and Capt. of a company and when Gov. Andros erected forts there in 1688, he was put in command. He was killed by the Indians on his farm at Back Cove September 21, 1689.
