On July 1, 1863, near Gettysburg "was attacked with rheumatism on the march to Gettysburg and was helped along and after the battle at Gettys (in which I was in the fight) I went to the hospital at Annapolis and remained about a month. I returned to my regiment, came home to Brattleboro, Vermont, was mustered out by reason of the expiration of term. Dr. Adams of Island Pond, by, attended Maine from I got home.
