"Cecil was drafted into the U.S. Army on June 25, 1941. He served in the 41st Division in the 167th Field Artillery; he served in the continental United States ten months and fourteen days.
"In foreign service he served three years, three months and twenty-five days. He was on duty in Central Pacific, New Guinea, and the Southern Philippines."
"Cecil received the following Decorations and Citations:
The American Defense Medal for Meritorious Defense of the United States
Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal
Philippine Liberation Medal, for helping free the Philippines of the Japanese intruders
World War II Medal
Good Conduct Medal
Sharp Shooters Medal
The Bronze Star for meritorious or heroic achievements above and beyond the call of duty.
Cecil was discharged on September 9, 1945. He returned home suffering from a severe case of malaria which was to bother him for several years thereafter."
