Page 195 Daniel was one of the a meeting house constructed in Machias in 1774. It was probably he, a Revolutionary War soldier from Machias, who served as a private in Capt. Smith’s company and Col. Foster’s Lincoln Company regiment from 16 july 1777 until 10 October 1777 when British ships lay in the harbor at Machias. He also served in Capt. Stephen Smith’s company, Col. Benjamin Foster’s regiment between December 1778 and January 1779 and in another unit from 31 August 1779 until 20 November 1779 at Machias. At Machias, Daniel served in many town duties and offices including Surveyor of Highways (1784, 1786), Collector (1790), peti juror (1792), and grand juror (1801, 1805)87
