Notes for Nathaniel LIBBY
The three following are listed here because possibly their children, and other parentage less likely: Mehitable, Hannah, Nathaniel. In 1742 was a “potter” of Portsmouth, in 1743 brought in Execter. Administrator to Josiah Thing; inventory shows a stock of pottery and general merchandise. He wrote an elegant hand. If this Nathaniel was childless, he could have been son of James, and his brother John could have been Father of Nathaniel, ancestor of the South Carolina Libbys, who might have learned the mastmaker’s trade from his Uncle John Marden. In 1761 Nathaniel of Portsmouth, mariner, was sued.76
