Notes for Jeremiah JORDAN
He and brother Samuel were reaping for Stephen Jones at Oyster River in 1680; both must have retired that year to Spurwink, where his portion was to be the old plantation willed to his mother. His wife accompanied him to Newcastle during the next war. Coroner’s jury there 1693, taxed 1698. Returning home during the false peace, his wife and 7 children were taken 10 August 1703. The Jordan Memorial and Miss Coleman called him a captive, but it was his son, not he, who was kept long in Canada and France, and returned unrecognized at first, to be kin as French Jeremy. His wife was released by July 1706, was called his widow next month and certainly married before 17 July 1714 William Jones. There were 7 children.
