8th-great-grandfather Jabez Snow was a direct descendant of Mayflower passengers Stephen Hopkins, and his daughter, Constance Hopkins. Jabez was admitted a Freeman at Eastham on 07 Jun 1681, and he served there as surveyor of highways and selectman. Jabez is referred to as a "Lieutenant" by Crowell. He was in the expedition to Canada in 1690 under Sir William Phips, being a Lt in Capt John Gorham's Company. He died in Dec of that same year at the age of 48. Administration of his will included the taking of an inventory on 20 Apr 1691 and settlement on 08 Apr 1695. After allowance for the "widow's thirds" in 1695, the court ordered distribution to his nine children. The total amount of his estate was # 322.19s4d. In the will there is listed a claim of 21 pounds against the Government for "...going a warefare to Canada...", offset in small measure by a debt of 15 shillings for a cutless he had lost.
