When she was 14 years old, she went to work in a factory to help out with the family's expenses. Her farther, mother and older brother Clarence all came down with the severe flu that had killed many people during that period of time. All the Klene's survived, but were unable to work for a while. She told the factory boss that she was 18 years old and he believed her and hired her. When the family moved from Cincinnati to Greensburg, Rose found a job in the Cosmos Candy Kitchen and later she became a telephone operator and took the younger children to the picnics the company had for them. (My mother was quite a bit younger than Rose and enjoyed this so much.) She Married Thomas Raymond "Ray" Tumilty, who was a skilled brick layer.679
