Notes for Isaac HIGGINS
Family 54-pg 50641
Isaac Higgins lived all of his life in Eastham and was a farmer. He was admitted Freeman of the Colony about 1694-95, voted "Townsman" on 26 May 1702, chosen "Tithingman" 24 Mar 1717-18, and Constable on 27 Mar 1723. In May 1725, his house was one of the designated places for sheep-shearing. In Mar 1729-30, Isaac was elected surveyor/inspector of highways, and in the years 1729, 1732-73, he served on jury duty. 7th-great-grandfather Isaac died in 1760 at the age of 88. His will, dated 12 Feb 1760 and proved 20 Mar 1760, is on record at Barnstable. The will states: "...I, Isaac Higgins of Eastham, husbandman, far advanced in years, make my last will and testament. To Lydia, my beloed wife, my whole estate for her life. To heirs of my deceased son, Benjamin, all my wearing apparell in equal proportions. I give them no more because I gave to my son, Benjamin, a deed of part of my real estate before. To children of my deceased son, Isaac, the field where the dwelling house of my deceased son, Elkanah, formerly stood, and half a lot of land lying on the Northerly side of the place called Yates Creek. Likewise, a lot of woodland near Silver Spring Harbour and also one note for 10 pounds from Isiah Higgins and another for Jesse Cole. To my daughters, Mercy, Sarah, Rebecca, Hannah and Lydia, all my moveables equally divided..." Isaac outlived all three of his sons.
