Thomas Wardwell/Wardell was the second member of his family to sail from England and settle in Boston (the first member was Thomas's older brother, William).
Thomas's brother, William Wardell, along with the Rev. John Cotton, Edmund Quincy, Anne Hutchenson, Wheelwright and 200 others, sailed to Boston on September 4, 1633, on the vessel "Griffin". It took eight weeks sailing time from "the Downs".
Thomas followed William a year later and sailed on the same ship, the "Griffin". Shortly following their arrival, Thomas married Elizabeth Woodruff. He became a freeman in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Court, 1637. The Puritans were non-conformists, but could not amicably tolerate views different from their own. Anne Hutchinson was banished from the Colony in 1637 and was killed by Indians at Hell Gate about 1643. Thomas Wardwell was deprived of his arms (weapons) and excluded from the Colony. He moved to Andover Massachusetts, where he was later restored to good standing.731
