My father Ernest was born in Portland, Maine and came to Chicago, IL in 1939 with his friend, Harold Weed. They were both looking for jobs since there were none in Maine at that time. My father met and married my mother and stayed in Chicago, IL until they divorced in 1954. He then went back to Maine and married, Edith Fielding Bean, who is still alive at 98 years old and living in Cumberland, Maine with her son, David Bean. Up until I was about 8 years old, we traveled back and forth from Chicago to Portland, my father always looking to find a job in Maine and to reside there. He did not like living in Chicago. Unfortunately, he never found a permanent job in Maine and when I started school they decided to stay in Chicago. My mother married Melvin Edward Potter in 1955. (Melvin was the son of Guy Irving Potter and Nellie Rancour. Guy Irving was my father’s half brother by Abbie Ella Potter and Unknown Potter.) So by marriage, my Uncle Guy became my grandfather and my father became my Uncle. This is the reason that I began to delve into Genealogy in the first place.
