Joshua, "Selectman 1669, 1671, 1677, 1679, 1686, 1691, 1694, and 1699; Representative in 1700. In his will, dated 25 Jan. 1715-16, gives legacies to Ruth Gannett, 'that was formerly my servant;' 'to cousin Joshua Beal, the son of my brother Caleb; to grandchildren Samuel, David, Jonathan, Daniel, Elizabeth, Mercy, and Hannah French;' and 'all the remainder of my estate to my two children Stephen French and Abigail French.' For many yrs. he had charge of, and received compensation 'for maintaining the drum.' Resided on Fort Hill St., on land given him by the town "to set a house upon."
