According to Bardsley, the surname Dewey/Dewy/Dewing orginates from "...the son of Dewin..., popularly Dewy; the Domesday form of this personal name was Derewin..."674. Margaret Dewey was born in Wymonham (pronounced Windham); Lewis describes Wymondham as follows: "...the town derives its name from the Saxon words, Win Munde Ham, which means a pleasant village on a mount...in 1615, 300 houses were destroyed by fire, and in 1631, the plague raged with great fury among the inhabitants..."675 It appears that Margaret was baptised in 1606 as a 32-year-old in Hingham, Norfolk, six years after her marriage.
She died in 1633, four months after her arrival from England with her family.
