6416th-great-grandfather Solomon Kendrick was a direct descendant of Mayflower passengers Stephen Hopkins, and his daughter, Constance Hopkins. Solomon, "Yeoman", first settled in Harwich on a parcel of land purchased by his father from an Indian; he was conveyed land in Harwich near his dwelling house by a deed dated 14 Feb 1743/44. He sold this property to his brother, Thomas, in 1761-62 and came to Nova Scotia where he and his son, Solomon, became original Proprietors of Barrington Township. In 1767, they had their lots laid out, located and described. In 1770, Solomon, was listed at Barrington with two boys and one girl. His daughter, Eunice, and her husband, Reuben Cahoon, both died in 1777, leaving small children: Solomon took the children into his care. Solomon was mentioned in the 27 Feb 1783 will of his brother, Thomas. His date of death is unknown, however, he is known to have been alive at the time of the second division of land in 1784, and is thought to have died in 1790 when he would have been about 84 years old. Solomon's will, proved in 1795, mentions sons Joseph (Executor), Solomon, Benjamin and John, and daughters Sarah, Elizabeth Smith, and Unise Cahoon, and grandson, Charles Knowles. Solomon's brother, Thomas, was married to his wife's sister, Anna Atkins.
