Notes for Rev. Jeremiah HOBART
parents: Peter & Elizabeth
703Graduated Harvard 1650. Ordained 2 Oct 1672, but after uncomfortable service, was dismissed 21 Sep 1680, and removed to Hempstead, Long Island. There was again settled 1682 and again dismissed went to Haddam, Connectucit., there was installed 14 Nov 1700, and died 6 Nov 1715 on Sunday, between morning and evening service, having partaken the sacrament in public worship, as the record says in 85th yr. Yet the Boston Newsletter of Apr1717, in relating of the daughter of Rev. Joshua as of February preceeding asserts that Jeremiah, the brother, died "a few weeks after." This error, in such great authority, misled three or four generations. Inventory of his estate is of 22 Nov1715. His widow was daughter of Rev. Samuel Whiting of Lyme, who outlived him and died at Hartford, aged 88. One of his daughters married Hezekiah Wyllis, Secretary of the Province of Connecticut and another married Hezekiah Brainerd, town clerk f. of the ardent missionary.
