Japhet Hobart 1647 - 1669

Japhet Hobart, B.A., physician, brother of the Hobarts who graduated in 1650 and 1667, son of Rev. Peter Hobart, who was born at Hingham, Mass., April 1647. He "went in the Quality of a Doctor of a ship, to England (before the time for taking his second degree at college) and designed to go thence, to the East Indies, and never was heard of more." Stiles says: The family Tradition is that one of Peter's sons went home to England and travelled to foreign parts, renounced his religion, and became a Romanish, and died a Cardinal or some great dignitary in the church of Rome.

"Last week, I asked Mr. Torrey (of South Kingston) what was this son's name. He said Japhet. Now I find that Japet Hobart was one of three brothers that graduated in 1667, at Harvard College." Who the "I" is in the previous sentence is unknown.

Went to England before 1670 as surgeon and expected to return. Was probably lost at sea
