Fought in Civil War with company M of the 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery unit and served from August 30, 1864 to June 26, 1865. Applied for a Civil War pension in September 1898 (?) He was granted the maximum pension of $12 a month on January 1896 and it was paid quarterly.
12Was born in Broome Co., the 1850 & 1860 Census from Randolph WI states Virgil was born in PA. His Obituary states he was born in NY. Virgil was a Private in the Civil War, Company M, 1st Wisc. Heavy Artillary Regiment from August 30, 1864 to June 26, 1865. The unit was assigned to Washington, DC. He was listed as a Constable in 1866 in Randolph, according to the book “Centennial History of the Town of Randolph” found in the Randolph Library.
