88 Page 476 He and his sons Samuel and William and 46 others signed a petition on 3 October 1763 requesting confirmation of their lands as settlers’ rights. In 1768, Samuel took up lot #99 in S. Penobscot where he was living in 1784 with his family of eight. He finally got clear title to this land on 8 May 1805 after paying the proprietor’s agent’s fee of $3.85. He previously sold one third of his homestead to his son Andrew in 1795 and had sold the remaining 100 acres, subject to a life tenancy thereon plus an annuity of $30 per annum, to his son Pelatiah in 1800 Samuel outlived Pelatiah and resold the lot #99 to his son Andrew for $1,000 on 6 May 1806, Samuel’s 2nd wife Mary releasing her dower rights. In his last deed, dated 24 Sep 1812, Samuel sold the west half of lot #105, formerly owned by his son Pelatiah, to the man who married Pelatiah’s widow, Joseph Devereux. Mary did not sign away her dower rights, suggesting that she was deceased by that time. Mary was possibly the Widow M. Williams in the 1800 USC for Lin Co. with a household Composition of 1 males 10-16, 1 female 10-16, 3 females 16-26 and 1 female 26-45.
